Child Car-Seats Save Lives

Transportation and Public Works Minister Clifford Huskilson knows the numbers and supports the cause.

Of 462 children in traffic accidents in 1996 (latest statistics available), one was seriously injured. A key reason for the low figure is the use of child car-seats. Because of this, Mr. Huskilson is cheering a Nova Scotia Safety Council child car-seat inspection and education clinic this Saturday.

"The numbers speak for themselves," said Mr. Huskilson. "Buckling up properly is just smart. We fully support the safety council's clinic and encourage parents to get their children's seats checked out. It makes good sense."

On Saturday, June 20, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at 2786 Agricola St., Halifax, the Nova Scotia Safety Council will help parents ensure their seats are properly installed and appropriate for their child. There's no fee for this clinic, nor tickets issued for misuse. Staff will be on site to provide refreshments and help entertain children.

Clinic or no clinic, it's a good idea for parents to review their car-seat owner's manual to ensure their child's seat is properly installed.
