Outdoor Leadership Course, Antigonish

The Nova Scotia Outdoor Leadership Development Program is holding a leadership course near Antigonish from Aug. 15-22. The course aims to make participants better outdoor leaders through a combination of theory and practical experience.

Training includes a trip into the wilderness surrounding Antigonish where participants gain practical experience in outdoor leadership by taking turns in leading the group. The outdoor classroom sessions educate participants on personality types (through Myers-Briggs testing) and the possible impact that personality can have on group dynamics in outdoor adventure situations.

Also, by understanding how to prevent and deal with emergencies, participants learn that wilderness travel can be both safe and enjoyable.

Participants from a wide variety of backgrounds are welcome to take part in this outdoor leadership course. Previous participants have included parents, Scout and Guide leaders, natural resources staff, educators and members of the military.

This course is one of eight made available through the Nova Scotia Outdoor Leadership Development Program. It is co-sponsored by the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission and the Nova Scotia Outdoor Leadership Development Program Committee.
