Senior Citizens' Week, June 14-20

The week of June 14 to 20 has been proclaimed as Senior Citizens' Week throughout Nova Scotia.

Francene Cosman, chair of the Senior Citizens' Secretariat, made the proclamation today on behalf of Premier Russell MacLellan at a small meeting involving representatives from senior citizens' councils, clubs and other organizations.

This year's proclamation draws attention to the fact that lifetimes of commitment and resourcefulness by seniors have served both the province and the community by encouraging others to continue learning, creating and contributing to society.

In a letter to municipal officials, Ms. Cosman urged all to make use of this special week to promote and emphasize the importance of a positive attitude to preserve the way of life in Canada.

Barbara Burley, the secretariat's acting director, called on groups to develop programs and activities to emphasize how a positive attitude and lifestyle contribute to the community at large.
