Museum Day Weekend in Nova Scotia, June 13-14

Ever wanted to ... learn more about fossils and dinosaurs? Know what an herb garden included in the 1700s? Ride on a miniature fire truck? See model ships? Learn how a dory is made? Have "tea" in a house from the early 1800s? Discover how a barrel is made? Play games like graces, rolling hoops, nine pins and tops just like kids did in the 1800s? Sample rhubarb desserts from recipes of the early 1900s?

Many museums in the Nova Scotia Museum family will participate in Museum Day Weekend on Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14, a provincial campaign aimed at raising the awareness among Nova Scotians of the vital role museums play in preserving, interpreting and communicating the province's cultural and natural history.

Museums in the Nova Scotia Museum (Museum Services Division) family that are planning special events during the weekend include:

Balmoral Grist Mill (Balmoral Mills) Cossit House (Sydney) Dory Shop (Shelburne) Firefighters Museum of Nova Scotia (Yarmouth) Fisherman's Life Museum (Jeddore/Oyster Ponds) Fundy Geological Museum (Parrsboro) Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic (Lunenburg) Haliburton House Museum (Windsor) Perkins House Museum (Liverpool) Prescott House Museum (Starrs Point) Shand House Museum (Windsor) Ross Farm Museum (New Ross) Ross-Thomson House (Shelburne) Sherbrooke Village (Sherbrooke) Uniacke Estate Museum Park (Mount Uniacke) Wile Carding Mill (Bridgewater)
