Province Hosts National Groundwater Conference

Over 350 people with expertise in groundwater systems will be in Nova Scotia for the next four days. Delegates attending the Canadian Groundwater Association national conference will discuss technology advances in finding and purifying drinking water supplies and new industry methods.

Environment Minister Don Downe will be the keynote speaker at the associations annual luncheon Friday, May 1, at the Dartmouth Holiday Inn.

The sessions are also attracting well drillers, pump installers, manufactures and others in the drinking water sector from the United States and the United Kingdom.

Officials involved with the development of the new drinking water supply for Sydney, N.S. will give delegates an overview of the project. The new Sydney water supply relies exclusively on deep drilled wells. It is the largest project of its kind in Canada in nearly two decades.

Fifty per cent of Nova Scotians rely on wells for their drinking water supply.

A Trade Show, exhibiting the latest designs for domestic water supply systems is open to the public on Saturday, May 2 starting at 8:30 a.m. The show will be held at the Dartmouth Sportsplex.
