Investigation Links Illness to Recalled Products
Five cases of salmonellosis in Nova Scotia have been linked to recalled food products.
Three of the cases are in the western health region and two cases are in the central region. Four of the cases are children and one is an adult. Public health officials had identified a total of eight cases for further investigation. The onset of the illnesses occurred between March 1 and March 22.
Public health officials will continue with their investigation.
The recalled products are four of the Lunchmate brand snack products sold by J.M. Schneider Inc. One of the cheese ingredients may contain the salmonella bacteria responsible for salmonellosis, a common food-borne illness.
The four recalled products are:
- Lunchmate Chicken Soft Taco, UPC 062000192758
- Lunchmate Beef Taco, UPC 062000192710
- Lunchmate Two Cheese Pizza, UPC 062000192833
- Lunchmate Big Combo Beef Taco, UPC 062000192598
A person with salmonellosis may have diarrhea, stomach cramps, fever, nausea and vomiting, usually lasting two to seven days. The symptoms may be mild or severe.
