Investor Education Week

The Canadian Securities Administrators, comprising the 12 provincial and territorial securities regulators, has developed an Investor Education Kit in conjunction with Investor Education Week, March 30 to April 3.

"The purpose of the education kit is to make consumers aware of the risks and rewards of investing in the securities market and to investigate before they invest," said Nicholas Pittas, director of the Nova Scotia Securities Commission.

Investor Education Week is an initiative of the Council of Securities Regulators of the Americas, whose membership includes securities regulators from 26 nations in North, Central and South America and the Caribbean.

"We believe education of individual investors and those involved in the securities industry must be a high priority for securities regulators", said Mr. Pittas.

The key Investor Education Week message is: "As regulators, we're here to help. But it's your money - so investigate before you invest."

The Nova Scotia Securities Commission is the independent provincial government agency responsible for regulating trading in securities, and the business of advising in securities trading and investment.

Copies of the education kit can be obtained by contacting the commission at 902-424-7768 or by Internet at: www.bcsc.bc.ca.
