Accessibility of Polling Stations

Efforts have been made to ensure as many polling stations as possible are accessible to Nova Scotians with disabilities.

However, some polling stations for the March 24 general election are unavoidably in premises that are not accessible, said Janet Willwerth, acting chief electoral officer.

Ads listing these exceptions are appearing in Nova Scotia daily newspapers this week. Voters may also call their constituency returning office to find out whether their assigned polling station is accessible.

If a polling station does not meet the needs of a voter, he or she may apply to vote at another station. Application for a transfer certificate should be made by March 21 at the constituency returning office.

An elector may also vote at the special or advance polls, both of which are held in accessible premises. The special poll is March 12-14; the advance poll is March 20-21.

For phone numbers of constituency returning offices, call Public Enquiries at 902-424-5200 or toll-free 1-800-670-4357.
