Gwen Noah and Norman Adams to Perform

The Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design is hosting an improvisational dance performance by Gwen Noah, accompanied by Norman Adams, cello, on Wednesday, March 4, at noon, in the Mary E. Black Gallery, 1683 Barrington St., Halifax.

Ms. Noah, artistic director of the Gwen Noah Dance Society, choreographs, performs and teaches throughout Canada. Trained in London, England, she has toured with the Julie West Dance Foundation in Canada, United States and Africa. A teacher and choreographer at Halifax Dance, her work is well-known in local dance circles as well as in many other centres in Canada.

Mr. Adams has been principal cellist of Symphony Nova Scotia since 1991 and has performed with the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra since 1994.

Ms. Noah will use gallery space that is in a transitional state as a new exhibition is being set up. Tall steel frames will have been installed in the gallery for A Celebration of Textiles, an exhibition opening March 12, but the textiles will not yet be hung.

In this stark framework, Ms. Noah and Mr. Adams will create a pulsating and vibrating improvisational dance performance. The performance will last about an hour and admission is free.

The Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design is a program and resource centre of the Department of Education and Culture and is operated by the department's Cultural Affairs Division. The centre, which functions as a visitor destination site, is a catalyst in the development of designers and craftpersons.
