TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Reclamation Work at Plymouth

Transportation and Public Works today awarded the contract to All Steel Coatings Ltd. of Port Hastings for reclamation work at the Plymouth (Westray) Mine Site. This project will begin immediately and includes:

• the demolition/dismantling of the coal silos, stacker and conveyers
• securing and covering the tunnel entrances
• regrading the site to ensure proper drainage
• placement of topsoil and hydroseeding
• grading and gravelling of a storage area for salvageable material.

Environmental concerns will be addressed by an on-going surface water monitoring program, groundwater monitoring program and the testing of the evacuated fill material to ensure Department of the Environment compliance.

This $847,770 reclamation contract is expected to take at least six months to complete.
