ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT/TOURISM--Sable a Priority in Guysborough
Guysborough County is ensuring that local businesses are able to take full advantage of the Sable gas project.
The Guysborough County Regional Development Authority has been forging working relationships with a number of Sable-related proponents and clients. The authority will now dedicate staff to help companies secure contracts as Sable moves forward in the months ahead.
The project is being funded with the help of $314,250 through the Canada/Nova Scotia COOPERATION Agreement on Economic Diversification. The investment was announced today by Guysborough-Port Hawkesbury MLA Ray White on behalf of Manning MacDonald, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, and development officer Bill Smith on behalf of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
"This investment will bring more jobs and new business opportunities to Guysborough County," said Mr. White. "We expect our population to increase by at least five per cent and our unemployment rate to go down."
"This funding will enable the regional development agency to hire additional staff and other resources for a two-year period," said Mr. Smith. "This project will ensure that the concerns and aspirations of Guysborough County are well represented and that the firms in the county are poised to benefit from the opportunities that will present themselves over the course of this $3-billion capital project."
"I am committed to ensuring that Guysborough County reaps long-term economic benefits from this project," said Gordon MacDonald, special projects manager with the Guysborough County Regional Development Agency who will manage this two-year project.
The economic diversification agreement is managed by ACOA and Enterprise Cape Breton Corp. on behalf of the federal government and Economic Development and Tourism on behalf of the province.
