A Nova Scotia manufacturer has signed a $700,000 deal to sell plastic-packaging machines to a Mexican company.

G.N. Plastics of Chester is selling five of its innovative Thermoforming machines to Nutrigo, a company based in Mexico City. The contract was signed in Mexico City during Team Canada's current trade mission.

"G.N. Plastics has proven itself a world leader in its field, and this deal confirms that position," said Premier Russell MacLellan, who was at the contract signing Tuesday. "This is a Nova Scotia company that has already been very successful in the global marketplace, and we're happy this trade mission was able to give it a boost.

"These types of contracts are what this trade mission is about --bringing jobs to Nova Scotians," said Premier MacLellan. "It is a tangible indication that business opportunities do exist in Mexico for Nova Scotia businesses."

G.N. Plastics, founded by Georg Nemeskeri, currently employs 95 people. The company in undergoing an expansion that will require a larger workforce in the picturesque South Shore coastal community.

G.N. Plastics machines produce a wide range of high-quality plastic packaging such as disposable cake domes and bases, hinged containers, lids and trays. The machines operate at low temperatures and consume less energy than comparable equipment, making them environmentally friendly.

The durable, high-quality construction of the Thermoformers has earned the machines a reputation for dependability and positioned the company among the leaders of this technology worldwide.

Exports currently account for 95 per cent of G.N. Plastics' business. The machines are shipped to more than 40 countries.

"The company takes pride in the care and attention it provides to customers worldwide," said marketing manager Jerome Romkey, travelling with Team Canada. "Being in Mexico City, in person to sign the contract with Nutrigo owner Alejandro Biehl, with the premier and Mexican president present, is just one more signal to our customers of how important they are to us."
