Michael Bell Named Chef de Mission

Sgt. Michael W. Bell has been named Nova Scotia's chef de mission for the 1999 Canada Winter Games to be held in Corner Brook, Nfld., Bruce Holland, Minister responsible for the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission, announced today.

"As a member of the mission team at the 1997 Canada Summer Games, and as a certified coach and a member of the Halifax Regional Police Service, Michael has the experience, qualifications and leadership skills that are ideal for preparing and managing Team Nova Scotia for the 1999 Canada Winter Games," said Mr. Holland.

Sgt. Bell's long-term involvement with sport, through coaching basketball and softball and holding administrative positions, is complemented by his professional development with Halifax police as a manager, facilitator and educator.

"My association with sports and my experience as a front-line supervisor for the Halifax Regional Police Service during the past five years have provided ample opportunity to practise and refine the skills required for chef de mission," said Sgt. Bell.

Said Liz Pace, chair of the volunteer Canada Games Management Group: "The chef de mission's position is one of great responsibility, and the Canada Games Management Group feels fortunate to have Michael leading Team Nova Scotia to Corner Brook."

The Games will be held from Feb. 20 to March 6, 1999.
